History

The club was formed in May 1965 by twelve Austin Seven enthusiasts, some of whom are still members today.  Since then the club has grown in strength to over 400 with many international members.

The main club meetings are held on the last Friday of each month except in August and December at 'The Bull' in Hinton Dyrham  (map). Activities include talks on various subjects, demonstrations, films of club events and socialising. We also have a social meeting on the first Friday of the month at a different pub every month - contact the club secretary for details.

In 1968 we held our first static rally at Longleat.  In 1978 we decided a change of venue was in order and moved to Berkley Castle which was a great success. After five years there, the club was offered the use of Spye Park near Chippenham, which was accepted because of the delightful setting. We had many wonderful and very successful rallies there and the tranquil setting made it an ideal place in which to camp and hold an evening ceilidh. When Spye Park was no longer available to us, we moved to Lackham Agricultural College near Lacock - about five miles from the Spye Park site.  Most recently, our major Rally  returned to Longleat for 4 years, but the lack of a Rally Secretary for 2009 means that no static rally is planned for this year.

Throughout the year club members organise a number of weekend and one-day events. These usually begin with run over the Easter weekend.  Other runs include North Devon at the end of May, Dorset in September and many day runs over the summer months.   All activities are flexible and include walks and sightseeing during the day with social evenings when the run covers more than one day.

Every year a trophy is presented to the club member who the committee feel has done something special for the club in the last year. Another is awarded for the "Driver Of The Year", and one to the driver who has had the biggest (or most amusing) disaster in the previous twelve months. Trophies are also awarded at some club runs for various achievements decided by the event organiser.
